Doug Maloney, Director of Bands
Doug Maloney has proudly served as Director of Bands at Chantilly High School since 2013. Prior to joining CHS, Mr. Maloney served as the Associate Director of Bands at Norcross High School in Norcross, GA from 2008-2013 and at Heritage High School in Conyers, GA from 2007-2008. He has been instrumental in cultivating the success of these programs, earning superior ratings at marching and concert festivals and also conducting ensembles at the University of Georgia High School Music Festival in 2010 and the Georgia State Bands of Distinction Clinic in 2013. Mr. Maloney also served as the Wind and Percussion Specialist for the Gwinnett County Youth Symphony from 2009-2011.
Mr. Maloney earned both his Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music Education degrees from the University of Georgia. While at UGA, Mr. Maloney was a member of the Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, and the Redcoat Marching Band, serving as both the Band Captain and Trumpet Section Leader. He was recognized with the Phi Beta Mu Outstanding Instrumental Music Education Award in 2005 and the GMEA Collegiate Music Education Scholarship in 2006. Mr. Maloney was a member of the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps in 2006. A trumpet student of Mr. Bill Siegfried and Professor W. Fred Mills, Mr. Maloney has instructed trumpet, brass, and ensemble clinics for the University of Georgia Summer Music Camps and numerous high schools and middle schools throughout Georgia and Virginia. He also maintained a studio of private trumpet students, guiding them to successful placements at the District, All State, and community youth ensemble level. Mr. Maloney is a member of the NBA, NAfME, VMEA, VBODA, and Pi Kappa Lambda.
Outside of Chantilly, Mr. Maloney enjoys spending time with his family, playing soccer, and cheering on all UGA sports teams! Mr. Maloney and his wife, Coleen, currently reside in Centreville with their daughter, Cameron.
Christopher Riechers, Associate Director of Bands
Christopher Riechers is the Associate Director of Bands at Chantilly High School. Prior to his arrival at CHS, Mr. Riechers was the Band Director at Freedom Hill, Westgate, Westbriar, and Flint Hill Elementary Schools. Working largely in the Marshall High School pyramid, he was previously the assistant director of bands and woodwind specialist at Kilmer Middle School. He graduated from James Madison University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and a minor in Jazz Studies. Mr. Riechers received his Master’s Degree in Saxophone Performance from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. While at UMASS, he was awarded a teaching assistantship in the saxophone studio with Professor Lynn Klock.
Working in Fairfax County since 2008, Mr. Riechers has taught music at every level available to students. Mr. Riechers began his career teaching general music and has since moved on to teach both elementary and middle school band. During the fall, he assists with the South County High School Marching Band. During the 2014-15 school year, Mr. Riechers helped to restart and rebuild South County High School’s jazz program. Mr. Riechers has also taught saxophone as adjunct faculty at James Madison University and served as a saxophone clinician at various high schools throughout Fairfax County.
As a performing saxophonist, Mr. Riechers has played with the Fairfax Wind Symphony, the Fairfax Wind Symphony Jazz Band, the Roanoke Symphony, and the Shenandoah Symphony. He has also performed in saxophone quartets that have toured all along the east coast and has performed at both the Navy Band Saxophone Symposium and the New England Saxophone Symposium.
While not working, Christopher enjoys spending time at home with his wife, Sarah, and two children, Caeden and Charlotte.
